Is the Polestar 2 a Sedan, Hatchback or Crossover?
"Two newcomer EV brands. Two takes on the cool family crossover. But is Swedish cool better than Korea’s Gangnam style?"
Every now and then I come across an article like this one from Top Gear comparing the Polestar 2 to crossovers and I always wonder...why??
The Polestar 2 is only 1-inch taller than a Tesla Model 3, 6" shorter than a Model Y and 4" shorter than the Genesis GV60 in the article. Yes, it does have a slightly raised suspension, but if it were to have the same wheel to fender gaps of a Model 3 (which I will do with sport springs soon), it would actually be shorter.
Yes it does have a hatchback, but it also has a trunk-like sedan rear end and not the hatchback's characteristic blunt, cut-off rear end.
At 58-inches high, with dual motors, 408 HP and 487 lb-ft of torque (with access, soon here in the U.S., to the Performance software upgrade bringing output to 476 HP and 502 lb-ft torque), I call my Polestar 2 a sports sedan.
And, it seems, Top Gear agrees, in their article comparing two "crossovers":
"The Polestar’s a more sorted sports saloon. The steering’s crisper, there’s plentiful grip and the brake pedal slows everything down with a reassuring squeeze and very little re-gen interference. So while the Genesis is the quick one, it’s actually the Polestar that’s the sportier car here. The one you’ll enjoy actually driving, as opposed to simply nailing the throttle and revisiting lunch in reverse."
I rest my case.
